Public username search, step by step
ProfileTrace searches public websites for profiles tied to a username. Use it to find public profile leads, review possible impersonation, or audit your own public footprint.
These links open the ProfileTrace web app. The user signs in or creates an account, enters a username, and reviews the results. This guide does not provide an API or an autonomous search connection.
Access and cost
Start with a free account. The first search is free, with no card required. Further searches use credits; check current pricing before planning more searches or spending credits.
Find public profiles for a username
- What you need
- An exact public username. If you only have a display name, ask for a handle or public profile URL first.
- Steps
- Search the handle in ProfileTrace. Review candidate profile URLs and compare public signals before connecting accounts to a person.
- What to return
- A list of candidate public profiles, supporting signals, and unresolved matches.
Review possible impersonation
- What you need
- A known official public profile and the suspicious handle or public URL.
- Steps
- Search the suspicious handle. Compare it with the official account and its outbound links. Record URLs and discrepancies without treating a resemblance as confirmed impersonation.
- What to return
- Public evidence and uncertainties for the user to review before reporting an account.
Audit your own public footprint
- What you need
- A username you use or previously used. Review one handle at a time.
- Steps
- Search the handle and verify which results are yours. Follow each platform's own settings or support process to update or remove your accounts.
- What to return
- A verified account list and a cleanup checklist. ProfileTrace does not remove accounts for you.
Interpret results carefully
A matching username is a lead, not proof that accounts belong to the same person. Compare official links, bios, and account history. A missing result does not prove that an account does not exist.
