A copied avatar and a familiar meme can make a lookalike 9GAG account easy to miss. Check the account behind a collaboration offer or payment request before replying.
Compare the account and its posts
- Compare the full
/u/profile URL with the creator’s published links. Look for swapped letters or an extra character in the handle. - Read several uploads and comments. Compare topics, posting dates and writing with the established account; a copied meme alone tells you little.
- Check whether the bio’s social links lead to the creator’s known pages. A copied bio with different contact details deserves a closer look.
- Pause a payment or private-chat request from a lookalike account. Confirm the offer through the creator’s existing contact channel.
Save the posts behind a report
- Keep the suspicious profile URL and screenshots of the handle and bio.
- Include permalinks to copied memes and relevant comments, with capture times.
- Add the established account’s URL so a reviewer can compare the two.
