BookCrossing Profile Impersonation: Reader-Safety Checks
A BookCrossing bookshelf can borrow another reader’s bio and interests. Compare the journal history and contact details before sharing personal information or arranging a transaction.
Read beyond the bookshelf bio
- Compare the exact bookshelf URL and username with the reader’s known page.
- Review older journal entries and reading themes as well as recent posts. Long gaps in activity are a reason to check context, rather than a verdict on the account.
- Compare location and social links with details the reader has already made public.
- If a familiar-looking page asks for money or personal contact details, confirm through your existing conversation with the reader.
Show what was copied or changed
- Save the suspicious profile URL, handle and screenshots of copied bio text or shelf content.
- Include journal links and dates for conflicting claims.
- Provide the established reader’s URL for comparison when reporting the account.
