Urgent account-safety response

Discord "I Accidentally Reported You" Scam

A stranger or compromised friend says they reported you by mistake, then sends you to a "support" contact. Stop. The urgent handoff is the scam.

Do these four things now

  1. 1. Stop replying. Do not contact the support account they named.
  2. 2. Do not change your email. Do not share passwords, codes, QR scans, or payment.
  3. 3. Save the evidence. Capture the sender, messages, links, timestamps, and requested actions.
  4. 4. Use official support only. Open Discord or Steam help from a trusted bookmark or typed domain.

The common script

  • Someone claims they accidentally reported your Discord or Steam account.
  • They say your account will be suspended unless you act immediately.
  • They direct you to a fake moderator, admin, or support representative.
  • The impersonator asks you to change account details, reveal a code, scan a QR code, share your screen, or send money.

What official guidance says

Steam explicitly says false or mistaken report claims can be ignored and warns users never to follow instructions from anyone claiming to be Steam Support through Discord or another chat system.

Choose the response that matches what happened

You did not share anything

Block and report the sender, warn the real friend through another channel if their account may be compromised, and keep the screenshots.

Do not continue the conversation to gather more evidence.

You shared a code or changed account details

Use the platform's official recovery process immediately. Secure the connected email account, change reused passwords, review active sessions, and enable multifactor authentication.

Never use a recovery link supplied by the person who contacted you.

You sent money or financial details

Contact the payment provider or financial institution now, preserve transaction records, and report the fraud through the appropriate official channels.

Account recovery and payment recovery are separate workstreams.

Need to check the public handle?

A public-profile search can help compare the sender's handle with known creator or community accounts. It cannot validate an internal Discord or Steam support identity.

Search only after you have stopped the conversation and secured any affected account.

First search free. The handle stays prefilled when the same browser session continues through authentication and runs only when you submit it in the app.
