Find and Follow a Write.as Blog

Find the blog’s federated identity without assuming every anonymous post belongs to a public profile.

How do I find a Write.as blog from Mastodon?

For a Write.as blog with federation enabled, search from your fediverse service using the blog’s full social handle or its blog URL. Ask the author for the current address if an old handle stops receiving updates.

Use the blog’s full address

The Write.as federation guide documents searching by either the blog URL or full social handle. Keep both parts of the handle: the blog name and its domain. A blog on a custom domain can have a different address from one hosted on write.as.

When a follow stops updating

Write.as says changing the username or domain of a federated blog breaks delivery to existing followers. Follow the new handle after the author confirms it; do not assume the old subscription will transfer.

A post may not identify a blog

Write.as also supports writing without signing up and publishing under separate identities. Start with a blog address the writer has shared. A standalone anonymous post does not establish a connection to another account with a similar name.

Check a public handle across sites

You can separately check a public handle across supported sites. A matching name alone does not confirm account ownership.
