Find an OpenGameArt Contributor and Credit the Right Artist
Separate the uploader’s account from the artwork’s attribution requirements.

Is the OpenGameArt uploader always the artist I should credit?
Do not assume the uploader is the original artist. Open the asset page, read its attribution and licence details, and follow the contributor’s link when you need their account. Keep the asset URL for your credit record.
Read the asset’s attribution first
OpenGameArt’s FAQ permits uploads of other people’s work under specific conditions. The account that submitted an asset and the creator named in its attribution can therefore be different.
Find the contributor
The site’s artwork and community listings link contributor names to account pages. Use the link attached to the relevant submission rather than guessing an account address from the artwork’s title.
Keep the artwork link too
For credits, retain the asset’s title, creator information, licence and source URL. The FAQ gives guidance on crediting an author, but the particular asset’s licence and attribution notice determine what you need. A contributor profile alone does not answer that question.

Check a public handle across sites
You can separately check a public handle across supported sites. Compare results with a link the account owner has shared; a matching name alone does not confirm ownership.
