About Wattpad profiles
How Wattpad usernames work
Each Wattpad account has a unique username, shown on the profile with an @ in front of it, and a separate display name (also called full name or name) shown above it. The username is what powers profile search, comment tags and story dedications, and it forms the profile address shown above. The display name is purely cosmetic: two accounts can share it.
Typical profile URL: https://www.wattpad.com/user/<handle>
Tips for finding accounts
Follow a story’s author link if you only know its title. Usernames use 6 to 20 characters without spaces or special characters.
Profile visibility
Wattpad shows what a writer chose to publish and interact with. Blocked users cannot read the blocker's stories, so a profile can look different depending on who is viewing. The minimum age to join Wattpad is 13, which is worth remembering before contacting anyone found there. ProfileTrace includes Wattpad among the ~4,000 sites it checks for an exact username, but it cannot see private messages or anything outside public pages.
More about Wattpad
What this service is
Wattpad is a platform for publishing and reading serialized fiction, where readers vote on and comment on chapters and follow the writers they like. Because stories, dedications and comment tags all point at the @username, a Wattpad profile is anchored by its public writing and reading activity rather than by personal details.
Username and URL behavior
A username can be changed at any time with the account password, from Settings on the web or Account Settings in the apps. Wattpad updates every mention of it in comments, dedications and stories, but notes that once you give up a username it can be taken by someone else. A username still used by another account cannot be reused, even if that account is closed or inactive. See Wattpad Help: Changing your username and Changing your display name.
Links and account details
Published stories, their update history, followers and public comments are the signals that build up over time on a Wattpad profile. Wattpad staff and Ambassadors carry verified badges, so anyone claiming to be staff without one is not staff. Wattpad also advises members not to post personal information in profiles or stories.
Common impersonation pattern
Wattpad's Community Standards prohibit posing as Wattpad, Wattpad staff, Ambassadors, Stars, public figures, brands or others. Wattpad has also warned about public messages from accounts impersonating Wattpad that ask members to verify their account; it says it never asks for passwords, payment or account details that way.
How to report a concern
Report a user from their profile: on the web, the three dots next to the Follow button open a Report option; in the apps, the three dots in the top right corner. Reports go to Wattpad's Trust and Safety team and are anonymous. Steps: Wattpad Help: Reporting users.
Wattpad Verification Checklist
Check the profile
- Confirm the @username, not the display name, and open wattpad.com/user/username.
- Open one of the writer's stories and check its author link points back to the same profile.
- Compare story update dates with when the person says they have been writing.
- Allow for a recent username change if an old link or tag no longer resolves.
What to do with the results
- Write down the @username and wattpad.com/user address with the date.
- Keep story links, because a username change updates tags but old profile links may break.
- Check whether the writer uses the same handle on other reading or social sites, and whether those profiles link back to Wattpad.
- Recheck the profile later if the username may have been released and reclaimed.
Checks and reporting on Wattpad
Signs of a copied account
- Public messages asking you to verify your account or enter payment details.
- Accounts claiming staff or Ambassador status without a verified badge.
- A lookalike username reposting another writer's story.
- Requests to move a conversation or payment off Wattpad.
Check the account
- Check whether the writer's other public profiles link to this exact Wattpad username.
- Look for a verified badge before believing any claim to be Wattpad staff or an Ambassador.
- Compare writing style and recurring characters across stories when authorship is disputed.
- Treat a copied avatar or display name as weak evidence, since display names do not have to be unique.
Report a copied account
- Save the profile URL, the @username and links to the stories or comments involved.
- Use the three-dot menu on the profile and choose Report, then pick the closest reason.
- Add where the content appears so Trust and Safety can find it.
- Mute or block the user if contact continues; see Reporting users.

Questions about Wattpad
Can I change my Wattpad username?
Yes, at any time, as long as you know your password. Wattpad updates the name across comments, dedications and stories, but your old username can then be taken by someone else.
